Spotsylvania County Juvenile & Domestic Relations
If your child has been charged or you are an adult who has been charged in Spotsylvania County with a crime against a family member, your case will most likely start in the Spotsylvania County Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court. The courthouse is located at the following address:
9113 Courthouse Road
Spotsylvania, Virginia 22553
Dockets are handled by the Honorable Honorable Georgia K. Sutton, the Honorable John E. Franklin, and the Honorable Marcel D. Jones, though on some days cases may be heard by substitute judges as schedules dictate.
Parking is ample and located behind the courthouse. Phones are not allowed in the courthouse and the Sheriff’s staff will not watch your phone for you. Your possessions will be x-rayed and you will have to pass through a metal detector (sometimes after having removed belts and shoes) before you will be granted access to the courtrooms. Once you are through security, you should check in with the Clerk, whose office is upstairs. There is an elevator if you need it right after the metal detector, or you can take the stairs which are ahead of you to your left as you exit security. Judge Franklin’s courtroom is right next to the Clerk’s Office and the benches are there for you to use as you wait. Judge Sutton’s and Judge Jones’ courtrooms are on the same level and have seating outside for your use. No matter where you are, a bailiff will announce your case before you are expected to enter the courtroom.
Shorts and hats are not allowed in the courtroom. You should also not have any sunglasses on your head. You are not allowed to put your hands in your pockets while you are before the court.
