About
Andy limits his practice to criminal trials and appeals, mostly in the greater Fredericksburg area but further afield when requested. He also handles select other matters for local businesses.
Andy’s interest in criminal defense carried him through law school to an internship with a boutique criminal defense firm in Richmond, where he joined as an associate after graduating. While there, he handled felony and misdemeanor matters in approximately thirty-five Virginia jurisdictions and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Andy then prosecuted cases for the City of Fredericksburg for several years, handling matters ranging from driving under the influence to murder. In 2009, he left the public sector and returned to criminal defense work, and can be seen in this region’s courtrooms most every day they are in session – except when he travels.
Andy believes the greatest endorsements of his talent come from those who choose him despite seeing countless other defense attorneys at work – he has represented prosecutors, police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and bailiffs, and has handled numerous matters for members of their families. He often takes referrals from court reporters, interpreters, clerks, and other courthouse personnel. These individuals see all local trial lawyers in their element, and regularly trust and recommend Andy. Some clients have even selected Andy to represent them after seeing him cross-examine their loved ones in other cases. He has accepted court appointed clients at the request of the Supreme Court of Virginia and numerous local circuit courts and he serves as a substitute district court judge in the 15th Judicial Circuit.
